Promotion and Management of Apis cerena Honey Bee through Value Chain Development for Sustainable Income Generation in Dang District
In a significant stride towards fostering sustainable livelihoods and rural development, the Good Governance Protection Forum (GGPF) has accomplished its project, "Promotion and Management of Apis cerena Honey Bee through Value Chain Development for Sustainable Income Generation in Dang District." With the collaboration of the National Agricultural Research and Development Fund (NARDF), the project aimed to empower local communities by promoting effective beekeeping practices and enhancing honey production in the Dang District. The project, spanning from April 8, 2016, to April 8, 2018, was centered around the regions of Pawanwar, Shigha, and Hapur within the district.
The GGPF's initiative revolved around a multifaceted approach, including the formation and strengthening of beekeeping cooperatives or groups, comprehensive training and capacity building for beekeepers, establishment and management of honey bee colonies, advanced honey extraction and processing facilities, stringent quality control measures, insightful market research, and the establishment of robust market linkages. The two-year project has borne fruit, benefiting numerous individuals in the targeted regions. By empowering local farmers and entrepreneurs to adopt modern beekeeping practices and tap into the potential of honey production, this endeavor has not only created sustainable income streams but has also disseminated knowledge and best practices that extend beyond the beekeeping sector, thereby contributing to the overall growth and development of the community.
